Crowns/Bridges in Bloomington, IN

When a tooth becomes impaired, infected, worn-down, or extracted, it becomes vital to restore or replace the tooth to its previous condition.  At Baker Family Dentistry, we offer lifelike tooth restorations like crowns and bridges that reinstate your teeth to total health and functionality.

What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns function as a cap that covers your entire impaired tooth. They are generally used to restore severely decayed and damaged teeth. In addition, crowns have multiple uses, like protecting a dental implant restoration or supporting a dental bridge. Crowns can be made from three different materials, including metals, all-porcelain, or porcelain fused to metals. Each material has its advantages and disadvantages, but ultimately we will recommend the best crown based on your situation.

At our office, we also offer same-day dental crowns made with our in-house iTero machine. Same-day crowns can be designed, fabricated, and fitted in a single session to ensure our patients regain their smile appearance without further delay. The whole process is completed on the same day using advanced dental technology.

What Are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are planned to replace missing teeth in a row. They are fixed in your mouth and are less expensive than dental implants. A dental bridge comprises two dental crowns that support an artificial tooth in between.

The two crowns are placed on adjacent teeth of the missing tooth. We fabricate our dental bridges with ceramic or porcelain material, color-matched with your existing teeth giving you a beautiful and natural smile.

Procedure for Dental Crowns and Bridges

The procedures are pretty similar for crowns and bridges since dental bridges use dental crowns. To start, we will prepare your natural teeth that will have the dental crowns placed. This involves scraping a small amount of enamel to make room for the dental crown. Once the teeth are carefully prepared, we will take impressions of the tooth for the dental crown and the adjacent site for a dental bridge. While you wait for your restorative appliance to return from our laboratory, we will place a temporary restoration to protect the prepared teeth.

After your permanent restoration is ready, we will check them for proper fit and bite. We will bond the restoration in position once satisfied with all the parameters. Crowns and bridges can last for a long time with efficient care and maintenance.
