Wondering if it’s time to turn to your dentist for professional teeth bleaching?

Smiling offers a load of amazing benefits. It can boost your mood, reduce stress, and may even lower your blood pressure, but if you have a smile that’s yellow then you may not be smiling as often as you’d like. Our Bloomington, IN, family dentist, Dr. Lisa Baker, can help get you smiling again with professional teeth bleaching. Here are some of the advantages of turning to the pros for bleaching rather than trying to do it yourself.

Results are Nearly Instant

Over-the-counter teeth whitening is certainly not the fastest. Even if you are a stickler for using the whitening strips or trays every night, you may only see a slight difference in your smile after weeks of dedication.

Our in-office teeth bleaching treatment is the most effective way for our Bloomington, IN patients to get a whiter smile in under one hour. Stop trying whitening products from your local pharmacy and opt for the treatment you know will get you the results you want.

Professional Whitening is Safe

You may have heard that bleaching can damage and weaken your teeth, but this simply isn’t true. Oral bleaching agents can only change the color, not the structure of your teeth. Of course, if you are prone to tooth sensitivity then you may want to swap your at-home whitening for bleaching from our Bloomington, IN, dental professional, Dr. Baker.

If you already experience tooth sensitivity, you may be a bit wary to try whitening products, but don’t be. During your in-office teeth bleaching, Dr. Baker and her team will closely monitor you to make sure you are comfortable and not experiencing any sensitivity.

If you do experience sensitivity, we can change and tailor your treatment to make you more comfortable. We also protect gums from irritation by covering them during treatment. This is something at-home whitening just can’t offer.

It’s a Serious Confidence Booster

Who doesn’t want to show off a gorgeous set of radiant teeth? Smiling offers an array of health benefits, and if teeth whitening makes you smile more, then you’ll also notice a boost to your self-esteem and your overall wellbeing.

You’ll no longer have to worry that people are noticing your yellowing teeth instead of talking to you. Now you can flaunt that dazzling smile and feel amazing doing it. If you have an important event or occasion coming up, professional teeth whitening can help you look and feel better fast.

If you’ve tried commercial teeth bleaching products and they aren’t doing the trick, it might be time to turn to your Bloomington, IN, dentist for professional whitening. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Baker to find out if bleaching is right for you. Call us at (812) 332-2000.

Could invisible braces be right for you?

So, you are interested in turning to our Bloomington, IN, family dentist Dr. Lisa Baker to get Invisalign? Of course, you want to make sure that Invisalign is the right treatment for you. We want all of our patients to feel confident about the treatment they receive from our dental team. It’s true that this nearly invisible aligner treatment makes it even easier for teens and adults to get a straighter smile without others noticing their braces. Here are just some of the benefits of getting Invisalign,

They reduce your risk for cavities and gum disease

Most people don’t realize that a crooked or misaligned smile increases their risk for cavities and gum disease. This is because it’s easier for plaque and food to get trapped in areas that are harder to clean through regular brushing and flossing; however, by turning to Invisalign to get a straighter smile you also reduce your risk for these common dental issues and improve your oral health.

They fix bad bites

Overbites, underbites and other bite problems are fairly common, but can make it difficult to chew properly or may even result in speech problems. The good news is that Invisalign can handle most bad bites (also known as malocclusions). This reduces your risk for excessive wear and tear on teeth, jaw pain and other dental dysfunctions.

Treatment is nearly invisible

One of the main reasons both older teens and adults turn to our Bloomington, IN, dentist for Invisalign is that they are looking for a way to get the smile they’ve always wanted without people noticing their braces. Since aligners are made from completely transparent, flexible thermoplastic, they are nearly invisible when worn. Plus, they won’t be visible in photos, so you won’t have to feel self-conscious about taking a selfie!

Still eat what you want

Invisalign aligners are removable, and you absolutely should remove them prior to eating or drinking (except water, of course). The good news is that you don’t have to change your diet and say “no” to some of the foods you love because of your braces. Invisalign fits perfectly into your daily routine without having to make any serious changes. For adults and teens who always seem “on the go”, having a treatment that fits into their routine is game changing.

It’s never too late to get a straighter smile. If you are interested in getting Invisalign here in Bloomington, IN, then call our office today at (812) 332-2000 to schedule a consultation or to learn more about the other dental services we offer.

Tags: Cosmetic Fillings

Today's dental patients have a treatment of choice for tooth decay: cosmetic fillings. Colored to match healthy tooth structure, cosmetic fillings are placed by your family dentist in Bloomington, IN, Dr. Lisa Baker. Durable and realistic, these restorations help you forget you ever had cavities.

What is a dental cavity?

Also called dental caries, cavities are holes in your tooth enamel. Caused by acid-secreting bacteria in plaque and tartar on and between teeth, cavities worsen when untreated. In fact, as they progress, they can destroy interior pulp and even progress into the jaw bone. While preventable, tooth decay is the most common chronic disease among Americans ages 20 to 64, says the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.

How your family dentist can help

In her Bloomington, IN, office, Dr. Baker uses a variety of filling materials to restore decayed teeth. For small to moderately-sized cavities, she usually chooses composite resin, a mix of plastic and glass powders. Composite resin is colored to match your tooth perfectly, and it is highly moldable, making it a perfect complement to your natural tooth structure.

After your dentist has removed the decayed portions of your tooth, she carefully layers the resin into the prepared site and hardens each layer with a blue light. Because of the resin's chemical properties, your dentist removes far less healthy tooth structure than traditional restorations require. This makes your restored tooth more flexible and durable.

Other cosmetic filling materials

Besides composite resin, Dr. Baker offers glass ionomer and porcelain fillings. As with composite resin, these fillings are tooth-colored and unnoticeable.

Glass ionomer works well on the sides of teeth (the non-chewing surfaces) and on exposed roots.

Finally, porcelain fillings--onlays and inlays--fill large cavities on back teeth. They replace or lie between the cusps of the teeth and are bonded with permanent cement.

A strong, healthy smile

Dr. Lisa Baker and her team will help you have one for life. If you need a filling, please call her Bloomington, IN, office for an appointment:(812) 332-2000.
